The SWR meter in the radio needs at least 30 watts output to read properly, if you are using one of the BetterRF ( or clone) gadgets to generate a tuning signal the signal is only about 10 watts and will yield very low SWR numbers.
For what it was worth.

> I have a question about the Icom 706MK2G swr meter. I recently hooked up an MFJ-945E antenna tuner and while checking SWR's with it, I am showing high readings. However without the tuner the swr meter on the icom is showing me good 1:1 readings. The antenna's I am using are hamsticks for 160-10 meters. My question is, are the swr readings from the radio's built in swr meter accurate without the tuner or should I go with the swr reading from the MFJ-945E and make my adjustments to the whips from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 73 Good DXing and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Love to eat the bird.
