Hi Dale,
Firstly, I would recommend the FL-44A or Inrad 109 (455kHz SSB, 2.4 kHz
wide). You can either plug it into the 455 kHz slot, or install it
permanently on the board instead of that horrid little ceramic filter
(FL-65). An FL-80 in the 9 MHz slot will have a better shape factor than the
existing filter. The FL-80/FL-44A pair, with the Twin PBT, will
significantly improve adjacent-channel selectivity.
If you are looking for a narrower SSB passband, you can install the FL-222
(455 kHz, 1.8kHz wide) and FL-223 (9 MHz, 1.9 kHz wide). If you have
installed the FL-44A or Inrad 109 permanently on the IF board, you will then
have a choice of 2.4 kHz and 1.8 kHz SSB bandwidths, both with good
selectivity.
There is a lot of information on the IC-746, filter choices etc. on

Subject: [Icom] Icom 746 filters
Hi
I need some help on selecting some filters for the 746. since we have 2
slots at 9mhz and 1 at 455, out of the filter offering from icom, what would
be the most effective picks. I do not plan to use the rig on CW, only ssb
and am once in a while. I looked at the filter slopes on another web site,
was not very informative. I guess I would like real world info and since the
price of icom or inrad is a lot, want to try to avoid making bad selections.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
