[Icom] Question about 751A stock filters

Hi Ed,

You really cannot do much better than the FL-80/FL-44A pair for SSB. You
could replace the FL-44A with an Inrad 109, which has a slightly better
shape factor, or the Inrad 110 (2.1 kHz @ -6 dB) for improved
adjacent-channel rejection.

I do not normally recommend the Inrad 9 MHz filters, as unlike the 9 MHz
units they are not mechanically compatible with the Icom filters. They need
to be wired in with coax jumpers; this can lead to blow-by.

The FL-52A (500 Hz) or the FL-53A (250 Hz) are excellent choices for CW.
Again, the Inrad 116 (400 Hz) and 122 (250 Hz) are good alternatives to the
FL-52A and FL-53A, respectively.

By the time you have finished buying all those filters, you will have been
part way towards an IC-746Pro <g>.

Subject: [Icom] Question about 751A stock filters

Hello all (and Adam),

An SSB filter question about my ICOM 751A....

While I'm quite happy with the performance using the stock SSB filters in my
751A I'm always wondering (especially with older rigs) if I can improve on
them replacing the stock filters with Inrads or something else? I mostly
work CW using the FL52A 500hz filter and I'm quite pleased with this
arrangement so I was mostly just wondering if the receiver can be improved
upon when operating SSB by simply replacing the filters?

Thanks again....73
