Yes, I recall reading somewhere a long time ago, of this problem in the
early units.  The problem is that mine has a serial number of 1792, but
worse it was purchased second-hand in the States and now Icom does not want
to know me!

I think I could rectify the situation somewhat, if I could remove the knob
and therefore get closer to the bearing/bush housing that the knob skirt is
presently covering.

This was one of the primary faults of the initial run of 775DSPs
produced 6 or 7 years ago.  Icom supposedly (a) changed suppliers, and
(b)serviced these units under warranty as well as fixed those in the
warehouse.
