[Icom] No Anti Dsp Conspiricy Exists

Hey, love all our different kinds of radios. All have pluses or minus,
including tubes vs transistors, transistors vs ic's, etc etc

It is a well known fact about receiver and audio performance differences
between tubes and solid state. Does that mean my expressing an awareness of
those differences means I have to side with one or the other?? Nope, not at
all of course. Nor does listing the positive and negative aspects of Dsp
place someone on one side vs the other.

Life has made it clear that there are exceptions to everything. Especially
the sales spins and information provide to us by sales departments. When
ever someone expresses how perfect or how worthless something is, the chance
are very good that neither positions is one hundred per cent valid. It is
the characteristics, the pluses and minus that need comparison and
evaluation, and every one needs to leave room for everyone else to deliver
their experience .... when some of those with great info post and get
pounced upon, do you expect them to keep coming back? Wonder why a group
begins to have a narrow view when like promotes like??

Every Icom rig I have has pluses and minuses, same with my Kenwood, Yaesu,
Heath, Drake, etc etc

Hey, No Anti Dsp Conspiracy Exists

For those that know me, I understand my rigs very well, and not just the
controls, read all my manuals and schematics, study all my manuals and
schematics, and assist others where ever I can, and do my own service. Have
yet to send in a rig to the manufacture. (fingers crossed hi hi)

I dont compare Civilian Luxury cars or Vans to a Military Humvee.

Also dont compare Civilian Dsp radios to Military Dsp radios.

There is Not a Anti Dsp Conspiracy activity going on.

Military gear is a different breed than our ham gear, and equating one to
the other as justification to 'mimic' one, is not the same comparison at all
.... in fact is misleading. I expect military gear to be better, dont you?

However, exceptions to everything noted, some military aircraft receivers
are not always as good as our own hf gear. The military counts on height of
the aircraft, and great antennas on the ground to make for reliable
transmission links. Some of those same aircraft military aircraft receivers
and antennas would not perform as well as some of our ham gear and antennas
in the same ground to ground situation .......

No lets stick with what we really know, and not jazz it up with the
opinions, emotions, and brand loyalty distractions.

The Dsp future is bright, and will only get better. In the mean time, there
are compromises to be made in all Dsp or all discrete Filters hf rigs. So
far I have found the marriage of both to be just about right for the current
state of the art, and that influenced my choice of purchase, especially for
a single rig situation. (I have more than one hf rig, there isn't just one
out there to go with to suit all circumstances, but I do expect the more
expensive rig to do better in spite of great looks)

I for one will continue to share pro's and con's. All Dsp, with out narrow
discrete filters up front, has yet measured up in all areas for hf amateur
radio, especially under strong signal conditions, for this state of the art
.... yet ......

Glad to see so many funding the field maturation process that our gear goes
through. Used to be we didn't do that at the personal level and our expense,
it use to be the manufactures that did this. But the funding has to come
from someplace, or they go out of business.

These excellent reflectors, and your input, will make my choice for the
future generation of new gear better, and easier to sort out the issues. So
thanks to all, and all please continue to share your experience, whither
good or bad. Dont let the slammers hold you back.
