John, even if your primary interest is SSB, the accessory filters for the 746 are very helpful. After I put
the narrow SSB filters in both IF's, the 746 was like a new, much improved receiver with the help of PBT
tuning. (I also use the 500 Hz cw filter in the 9 MHz IF). The setup works so well that I don't see much
advantage in my operation to upgrading to either of the newer PRO's right now. If price is your primary
concern, the original 746 with 2 or 3 accesSory filters may still save you some money. Otherwise, I really
like the features and performance of the latest and greatest.
