Just a note... anyone who is comparing the original IC-706 to the IC-706 Mk II G version will be very surprised at the vast improvement with the IIG over the original... Especially on 6 meters and above... I got rid of my original 706 because it was basically dead on 6 and up, and my MMT transverter ran rings around it on 6 meters... Now the IIG runs neck and neck with the MMT 50/144 xvrtr... the xvrtr is the LATE model MMT unit , not the original black box unit.... I still use the MMT xvrtr on 6 at the home QTH, because I use it with a Kenwood TS-711A that provides much nicer receive audio than the 706 IIG... but then , Icom was never guilty of good receive audio.... YMMV.... 73 de Jordan...

This means that if you remote mount the radio and have the removable front panel somewhere near the dash board, you will have to run separate cables to the radio for mic AND speaker/heeadphones! This may be inviting more RF problems. At least on the Icom, there are mic and speaker (or headphone) jacks on the front panel. (There is a switch on the back of the front panel to select speaker or headphone output for the jack.) The Yaesu has instructions in the manual on how to properly build a small attenuator (a couple of resistors) in a box so you don't overdrive the headphones with the speaker output...
