Eric,
The reason for the change from quadruple to triple conversion was a
rearrangement of the IF's in the IC-756Pro. As the main IF filtering,
including Twin PBT and notch, is implemented in the 36 kHz DSP IF, the 9 MHz
IF with its first-stage filtering (mainly for Twin PBT implementation)
became redundant.
More conversions do not (necessarily) a better receiver make. In fact, the
fewer conversions, the lower the risk of spurs, birdies etc.
You cannot go wrong with the Pro II. There may be some good deals at Dayton.
I am also considering picking one up there.

Hi,
Can anyone reccommend the Pro II, I am also going to Dayton and will be
talking to Icom and might get one myself. One thing that surprised me
was that it only has a tripple conversion reciever, My origional 756 has
a Quadruple conversion reciever. I have seen the rig up in CT. while on
a trip to the ARRL and I was really impressed but I am not sure if I
should get it now or wait till the price comes down a little.
THanks,
