[Icom] Pointers on getting through firewall?

Maybe I'm just lucky. I purchased a 2001 GMC 2500HD pickup about a year and
a half ago. (My Mrs. wanted a newer larger trailer than my old 3/4 ton
Chevie would pull.) I just rec'd my new Ham license and radio in April 2002
and looked into using my new FT-1500M in the truck. The dash has not only a
cigarette lighter plug (15 amp fused) but also two 20 amp fused auxiliary
power plugs. I've tried the transceiver out using the auxiliary power plugs,
don't seem to get any interfering engine noise, and haven't had any sign of
radio interference with the truck electronics ( I have kept the output level
below 50 watts though, for insurance) I'm using a dual range 6M/2M MFJ mag
mount antenna placed well forward of the windshield on the hood of the
truck. (Had to do it that way, Top of truck only clears garage door opening
by 3 inches, if I forgot antenna I'd certainly screw up the top of the cab.)
If I'm towing I can move the antenna
to the roof, even at my advanced age I don't try to garage the truck with a
30 foot trailer attached.
