Try to find the voltage supply line to the dial lamps and install about a
150 Ohm resistor in series with it.  You may have to go up or down in value
of the resistor a little to get the desired voltage.  Just make sure the
resistors wattage is large enough to support the current being drawn by the
lamps times the voltage drop across the resistor.

i have the ic-728 on my night table for a reciever.It work's great.One
problem though.The pannel light is way to bright and light's up half the
room at night.can someone please help me find the VR to turn this light
dim.I would greatly appreciate any help.thank's
