Morrie:
I donot have the 746 but the 756, however, I think that the question of
size of knobs can relate to both.
The largest is the dial knob, the smallest are knobs for mic gain, RF
power, comp, key speed, and bk-in delay.
Out of this batch of knobs, for me, the usage is about nil for bk-in delay,
key speed, (so you can tell that I am not a CW whizz, tho I wish I were)
then if needed mic gain and comp (havenot yet learned how to really adjust
these but that is coming), next is the Tuning knob (the largest) and used
the most the RF power (one of the smallest).

Now I did not inherit my maternal grandfather's fingers (his were about
1.5 of mine). He never had cold hands in the winter, he even warmed up my
mitts by wearing them. But could he splice etc cables and ropes.

I find that the RF tuning knob is too small. I adjust that more often than
any other knob on the rig. I adjust it each time I check in on various
nets. If I change frequency or if the weather has changed or the ground
below the antenna (ie snow, rain, sprinkle). Why not the dial knob, you
ask? Well there are 3 memories for each band on the push stuff and others
by certain memories (again I have not had to use hence donot rememeber
exactly how to use)

By-the by how could I adjust freq remotely like the IC mike does while I am
useing the Heil headset?

So maybe, the knob size, big or not big enough depends upon your operating
style.
