Hi All
Firstly I must apologise for not publishing a resume of the request for
information on the 746 pro. An untimely piece of surgery has precluded this.
Basically, reports of transmitted audio have been extremely good to
excellent with the tailoring of individual voice types being available to
achieve broadcast quality to DX quality. The ability to select and customise
selectivity and shape and not to have to buy expensive extra filtering is
also lauded and appears to hear very well on HF bands.
Of a concern would be some peoples opinion that on 2M the receiver is
somewhat deaf to as according to one person "as deaf as a fence post". I
would assume they must be measuring these statements against another
receiver with the same antenna system. I can equate to this problem when
listening to an FT847 on 50Mhz as against an old ICOM 560. The Icom wins
hands down.
The size of some controls appears to be of concern to some[maybe with banana
fingers] but how often these controls are used is not explained. A set and
forget type control I dont think would be of concern.
Nobody has reported on 50Mhz comparisons. So obviously no report.
Does anybody know how to interpret the serial number assigned to Icom radios
so as to read manufacturing date, production etc.
Thanks to those who have offered their time to reply.
