George, you should get the PRO service manual. It has exploded diagrams
that show you how all that is put together. I don't think that it could be
described in words alone . . .
I just looked at my manual and the drawings are so dense and on 8-1/2x11
paper are so small that making a copy would just not work. The only way I
could see any detail was to pull up the .pdf file (nearly 19 megs!) and
then enlarge the screen image on a 21" display until I could see some
detail.
Frankly, you are into a pretty complex mechanical assembly and I really
don't see how it would be possible to replace the panel alone with
virtually disassembling half the radio. Maybe doing a cosmetic repair on
the scratches would work out better.
