Hi, Folks.
Every day I have to manually approve probably a half-dozen or more messages
from members who are using the wrong e-mail address and are flagged by the
software as "non-members." So long as I keep fixing these messages, there
is no incentive for the senders to correct their problem.
The way these "non-member" errors usually come about is when someone
subscribes under an alias like qsl.net or arrl.net, but then sends messages
to the reflector with their original address (or vice versa). For example,
if I were to subscribe under [email protected], but then send a message as
[email protected], my message would be bounced as a "non-member."
Even if you have a Reply-To: line with a matching address, the mailman
system only keys off the address in your From: line.
As you can probably guess, I am going to start letting these messages be
rejected. If you receive one and want to post to the reflector, you are
going to have to reconcile the address differences, either by changing your
From: e-mail address or changing the address you are subscribed under.
If you absolutely positively MUST be able to send messages from two
different addresses, there is a way to fool the system, but it is a lot
more trouble than simply fixing the original problem.
If you receive a "non-member" rejection, it will look like the one
below. It's kind of wordy, but gets the idea across.
If this causes anyone undue hardship, I will try to help.

Sample error message:
Your attempt to post was rejected because you are not subscribed to this
list (You can't post unless you are subscribed). To subscribe, see
instructions below.
If you believe that you are subscribed, there are 2 possible reasons you
may have gotten this message.
1. If you are receiving daily mail from the list but have gotten this
message when trying to post, you are subscribed but are submitting your
post from an address other than the one you are subscribed under. Check the
welcome message you received when you subscribed to the list (you did save
it didn't you?). The address you are subscribed under is contained in the
body of that message.
Once you have determined which address you are subscribed under, use that
address to post from or unsubscribe that address and re-subscribe under an
address that you can send a message from.
2. You were subscribed but have been unsubscribed from the this list
because mail to you from the list has been bouncing (returned
undeliverable). To re-subscribe, see instructions below.
If you wish to subscribe, visit http//mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/icom
or send a message with the word `help' in it to the request address,
[email protected], for further instructions.
