[Icom] IC-756

I am about to replace the display unit in my IC-756 (blue lines problem) and
the shaft encoder (display freezing).  I have had the front panel etc off
previously trying to cure both problems with the compressed air can.  No joy
unfortunately. I would be glad of hints of things to watch for particularly
in doing this job from anyone who has the experience of treading the same
path.  There is quite a bit of play on the spindle of the shaft encoder
which has to carry the weight of the tuning knob hanging on the end.  If I
lift the knob slightly the encoder tunes normally.  It is a pity that Icom
didn't spend a dollar on a panel bush to take the weight.  I don't think
there is room to add one the way it's designed.  A lighter tuning knob would
probably help.  Reply off list if you feel that all this is old hat.
