I use 1/8" thick Plexiglas and bend it by heating with a heat gun. Keep the
paper backing on the plastic through the cutting process and then draw lines
with a permanent marker where you need to bend it. REMEMBER that when you
make the bends that the Plexiglas will be HOT so protect yourself. Sweep
back and forth along the line that you want to heat then if a straight line,
sandwich the plastic between pieces of plywood using one piece lined up with
your marks and slowly bend. You may have to heat again and bend, but this
way they will be nice and even. Corners can be shaped and if necessary
heated to make surfaced clear. If you apply too much heat the materials will
blister and remember that it is combustible. If it burns, the byproducts are
very toxic.
You can also heat the Plexiglas in your home oven, which will of course heat
it all at once.
NEVER remove the paper backing until you are about finished. This will
protect against scratches and unwanted marks like grill marks in the oven.
I'll have to check, but I think the oven gets set to about 250 degrees F.
When in doubt consult the Plexiglas website. Plexiglas is a trademark of
Rohm. Lucite and Lexan and two other trademarked products.
I also use these high strength quality products for antenna insulators. In
mobile installations with heavy antennas with ball mounts an insulator made
of 5/8" material will hold up to a great deal of abuse.
Hope that this helps.
