You make a point, Tony. I also expect that the complexity of today's radios
makes for a level of complexity not heard of in the past. Also, we are more
demanding, I think, of the equipment and therefore put pressure on that
complexity. One problem that we do have is the constant, "my radio is better
than your radio" syndrome. Kind of like when I was a kid and all we talked
about was whether Chevys were better than Fords were better than Chryslers.
In the end nobody was better. They all had their plus points and their
negative points. My FT-1000MP is a great radio and has many fine features I
would wouldn't trade. My IC-746 is just as good in its unique ways. And, my
good old TS-930S, in spite of all the supposed problems with that box,
continues to belt out signals that always get audio compliments. There was a
Ten-Tec Corsair II floating around here for a time and it was a fine radio,
too, with many things that held it up as outstanding. We limit ourselves when
we get too tied into any one brand of anything. Nobody has the ultimate
anything -- at least not in radios. The idea here -- at least from my
perspective -- is simply radio communication. Seems like I have as much fun
with that endeavor with my newest radio or my oldest Hallicrafters set --
just seems to tie into what day of the week it is!
