IC-2KL Owners:
I have had my IC-2KL amp for 5 years now and really like it except for one
thing, the loud fan noise. I have heard of other IC-2KL owners having the
same problem. The fan sounds like the bearings are grinding and the motor
is completely sealed. I have tried on and off for years to find a fan
replacement. The original fan is only about 1 inch height (25mm) and most
muffin fans are higher. I called Icom a number of years ago and they wanted
$150 US for a fan replacement...I do not think so. So I have been living
with the fan noise when it decides to come on.

The other day I was at the local computer store and noticed a vast array of
cooling fans for sale. To my amazement they had a 12 volt slim line muffin
fan made for a PC case/power supply. It cost me $18 US and it was almost a
perfect fit inside the IC-2KL. The only thing I had to change was the
mounting screws to the heat sink. The fan seems to blow the same amount of
air and it has absolutely no bearing noise!
