Mike, can you fabricate a spare cover and punch that one?
I make replacement covers for all kinds of radios and power supplies. I try 
to 'clone' the original out of .063" 6061-T6 aluminum. For instance, I make a 
ceplacement cover tfor the Drake AC-4 P/S. It has holes and an attached 
muffin fan. I could easily modify the original, but almost everyone does not 
want the original piece modified. You cannot hear it run but makes a dramatic 
reduction in temps. Also, my fan kit for the TR-4C is also a 'bolt-in, no 
modifications required" piece.
You have a very valuable radio, and you are certainly free to do with it as 
you wish, but you might affect it's resale value.
