[Icom] DSP for the older IC275H????

Steve,

Ah yes! What he enabled was PBT (Passband Tuning), a feature which enables the
operator to narrow the receiver IF passband via a front-panel knob.

The IC-X75 family originally came out with PBT, as did the IC-751/A, the IC-735
and various other Icom HF radios. The patent dispute erupted in 1989, and as a
result Icom had to remove PBT from a number of their products. The dispute was
settled a few years later, but by then Icom had discontinued the IC-X75 family
of rigs.

There is a procedure for reinstating PBT in the IC-275A or H. It involves
removing the DATA pot, and installing and wiring in a pot of a different value
for PBT.

You can download the IC-275A/H user manual here:

As for mics, the SM-6, SM-8 and SM-20 will all work fine - as will the HM-12,
HM-14 (DTMF) and HM-36 hand mics.

There is definitely no DSP in the IC-275 - it pre-dated internal DSP by about 10
years!

Joe again, I contacted a ham who had two of these for sale and he said they
had just come back from Icom where the repair tech there enabled or hooked
up.....how ever you want to put it... the DSP on both rigs. He said at the
time of their release and sale, Kenwood had a patent on something that kept
Icom from enabling this feature on the Icom 275H at the time. Now I don't
know why the guy would lie about that and that is why I asked the question
to get some confirmation from some of the veteran Icom folks here on the
reflector. I can only go by what info I have been given and again I see no
reason why this guy would lie about something like that!! 73, Steve
