Hi John,
May I suggest you have a look at my Icom page? The "Passbands" icon links to
a very revealing comparison of the classical analogue filters in the IC-765
with the DSP IF filters in the IC-756Pro (or Pro II).
There is also an account of a strong-signal test I performed on an IC-756Pro
II which I picked up in Dayton this year.

You can "pick your poison" in transmitted occupied-bandwidth settings on the
Pro and Pro II.

There are indications that the new "IC-785" will incorporate technology
licensed from Rohde & Schwarz of Germany. (R&S is Rockwell-Collins' main
competitor). This radio will be aimed primarily at the mil/govt. comms
marketplace, and should perform accordingly. Price will be in about the same
range as the IC-781. Until the "IC-785" comes along, I shall stick with my
Pro II - from my perspective the "best of breed" to date in the Icom HF
stable. I have owned an IC-765, an IC-781 and an IC-751A; each had its
strong and weak points. I would not step back from the Pro II to any of
them, though.
Best 73,

I sure hope the 785 has a better front end than the 756 Pro. I would like to
see icom combined the best of the Pro, 775 and 781. What a rig!
