I do not use toroids and have never had problems with RF with my 706
MKIIG. The main unit is mounted over the hump (not grounded) in front of
the rear seat with the cable running to the control unit which is mounted
behind the steering wheel on the column. The vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee.
The 20 meter antenna is a modified Hustler mounted in the center of the
roof using a four foot mag mount. A 40 meter Super Hustler antenna is also
mounted on the mag mount frame (county hunter). The mag mount frame is
grounded to the roof which is grounded to the auto frame. They are on
separate coaxial cable leads and are connected to a two way switch on the
consol. I also use the 706 with a laptop and a RigBlaster for PSK31 and
RTTY. Power for the unit is feed via two #8 leads connected directly to the
battery. I don't understand why so many people are having RF problems. Rule
#1, make sure separation cable screw is firmly in place on the main unit.
