[Icom] IC-761

I have an IC-765, recently sold my IC-761 and purchased an IC-756PROII. I
don't consider the PROII as an upgrade from the 761. The reason the 761
went away is no band stacking registers, and once you get used to them you
get spoiled real quickly.

My 761 receiver sensitivity was superior to the 765 and on a par with the
PROII but it still came back to the band stacking registers.

So if you want to purchase a new radio - do it. The bells and whistles on
the new stuff are great, but don't do it for better performance, which in my
opinion the word upgrade implies.

And while I am on my soap box:

Amateur Radio is a very inexpensive pass time. Ignoring the public service
aspects entirely for justification - I recall paying $2400 for a brand new
1967 Camaro and buying a new house (in 1965) for $8000.00. And paying $295
for a Heathkit SB-301 receiver and another $295 for the matching SB-401
transmitter.

Today your new Camaro will cost in excess of $24000 and who would want to
live in a new $80000 house? Which puts today's inflation rate at about 10x
1967 dollars.

And computers. We didn't have them in 1967, and they keep getting less and
less expensive and can do more and more. But how many of us have spent
$10000 on computers in the last ten years and still have obsolete junk?

So here we are, paying $3000 for a top of the line transciever which will
perform as well as an adequate receiver and transmitter that by todays
inflation rate would cost in excess of $6000, and we will use the
transciever for ten years or so.

And if the better half protests, how about going fishing? You gotta have a
$30000 pickup to tow that $50000 boat, and of course the pickup will only
last four or five years and the boat has to be replaced every year or so.
And the other half won't even know where you are half the time.
