[Icom] 706 receive

Hi Ed, I have a 706MK IIG and an old Kenwood TM241A. I live in San
Francisco and it is saturated with rf from pagers, etc. Using a fixed 6db
gain antenna, I have good luck with the Kenwood-very good
sensitivity/selectivity and little trouble with intermod. With the Icom, it
is another story, Nothing but intermod. It is so bad that the intermod will
drown out a conversation on simplex with the other station only five miles
away. I have also used the Icom on 2 Meter SSB (with horizontal antenna)
and it doesn't seem to be that great on receive. Perhaps it is just this
radio. When using the Icom mobile with a 3db mag mount antenna, it is not
as sensitive as the Kenwood and many moderate/weak signals are clipped or
cut off. I have also used the Icom on HF and it seems to do pretty well
there. I think the Icom is a good deal considering the cost vs. the
features for the money.

Just wondering what you guys think about the vhf\uhf receive on the 706 MK
II G compared to other vhf\uhf radios you have owned. Not lab or bench
specifics but real life experience.
