This is my first post to the list so apologies as I am probably asking a
question which is 'old hat' to others
I have an IC-756 (serial number 03372). In the recent past five horizontal
blue lines have appeared across the top inch or so of the LCD and remain
there while the rig is on.
I have been told that the only cure for this is to replace the LCD unit. I
have been quoted 240 sterling ($345 US) parts and labour plus carriage to
the UK to put it right. Icom UK have quoted me 177 sterling ($254 US) for
the display unit and fit it myself.
I would ask people who have experience of this problem
(1) whether replacing the LCD unit is the only cure or could the display
driver be faulty
(2) Is it reasonably easy for the average amateur to fit th LCD unit
himself/herself
(3) How likely is the problem to recur - in other words is it worth fixing
it
(4) Do the prices seem right
The final two digits in the frequency display lock intermittently. I
believe this is a problem with the shaft encoder which needs to be replaced
also. I can get the necessary part from Icom UK for 47 sterling ($70 US)
Please reply off list to avoid boring others with what may be a well worn
question.
