[Icom] Using Straight Key with IC-745 Keyer

Hello:

I have an IC 745 HF Tanscieiver with the optional  IC-EX243 Electronic=20
Keyer. It workls fine with my Bencher  Paddles, but I can't figure out how=
=20
to use it with a straight key. I have folowed the directions in the IC-745=
=20
manual for wiring a key to be used with the rig. Supposedly, to use a=20
stright key, you turn off the VOX GAIN/KEYER SPEED CONTROL.   When I I try=
=20
to use the straight key, all that happens is that the keyer sends dahs. I=20
can't control the spcing or make dits with the key.  I used a stereo 1/4"=20
plug wired to the straight key, as was suggested by Bencher, when I asked=20
them if they sold extra/replacement "3-p 1/4" plugs that I could use to=20
connect my key to the rig.

Any ideas?
