Quite correct.

According to a couple of bookshelf portable owners these are really just
generic 2/3subC cells.  The N-900C were 900mAH capacity NiCad batteries.
The current ones are 1300mAH, Sanyo model CP-1300SCR.  (The N-900Cs
were Sanyo Cadnica batteries as well.)  http://www.batteriesamerica.com
has them for $4.25 a piece, and, of course, you'll need 10 pieces per
rig.

I'll know by next week if these really work out, and I will post the
results to the list sicne there appear to be quite a few people still
using the old portables and quite a bit of interest judging from my
inbox.

BTW, if this does work, I'll be in the market for another couple of
BC-20s :)
