Well - actually ICOM does seem to be interested in compatibility with SOB 
amplifiers - P 19 of my 756PRO manual gives specific details on interfacing 
to non-ICOM amps, levels to set the ALC, keying relay capacity, etc.

OTOH, there is no such "non-ICOM" amp interface info in the manual for my 
little 706mk2g.
