[Icom] Does the new Icom Pro require

When I first heard about this concern on this reflector, I got out a volt
meter and checked the key up voltages on the keying lines on both my
amplifiers ( Ten-Tec Hercules II and a Titan ). I then keyed them both by
grounding through a milliamp meter (actually same multimeter). Its funny
that I don't remember the values, but I did satisfy myself that both under
16volts and well under 200ma. Unless there is some flaw in my method, I
would highly recommend checking this way prior to using the 756Pro's keying
relay without a buffer relay.

I think this is a misprint in the instruction manual. It is more like 16v
and 200 mils. There are many threads on this in the Icom archives.

While the newer Icoms will key the newer amps like the Alpha Power 87/89/91
and more than likely the Commander/QRO/Ten-Tec, you are asking for trouble
when keying direct the older amps like the L4-B/L-7/SB-220 etc that take
massive amounts of current for their keying relays. The key is to check the
specs of the keying relay of your amp and be governed accordingly. However
don't allow 2 amps as the current carrying capacity of the Icom 756 series
for sure.
