I've been building my own 12 volt packs in old BP-8S cases with NiMh cells from
http://www.nicdlady.com/ . NiMh can't stand the fast charging rate that Nicads
could stand so its important to make sure your new pack does not tell the BC-35
charger to fast charge. This is done via the 3 microswitches at the bottom of
the BC-35 holder. Combinations of the 3 switches causes different charging
rates. Some years ago I tested all possible combinations of the switches and
produced a chart of charging rates. I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile, I have
been using the slow rate (I think it was around 75mA) to charge my big NiMh
packs and it works great. Of course, charging these 2200mAh packs does take some
time; I leave them on for about 2 days each and they test full. When I use them
with say, an IC-2GAT or 4GAT they last for days, sometimes a full week of
evening use each day.
