[Icom] external speaker for IC 746

Tom, try the MS-4 with another radio or any audio source and make sure that
it is OK.
I have used them for years and never had one that sounded bad. The symptom
you describe though sure sounds like a speaker with a stuck or badly
dragging voice coil. Very strong signals could actually drive the coil up
against the madnet hard enough to temporarily jam it and that could account
for the lack of sound. Since you internal speaker sounds ok, that pretty
well points to the MS-4 as the culprit.
Don't toss a brick at me, but if you have the 746 manual, it might shed
some light on the hookup of that jack as well as make a speaker
recommendation.
