Adam,
I hear you, but they all have problems. I went to a local dealer some weeks
(months!!) back to actually look at and get either the IC-756PRO II or the
IC-746PRO. I really kind of wanted the 100 watts on two meters, but liked the
advertised extra features in the '756. So, when ready to actually make the
purchase, I decided to have them remove the "my" IC-756PRO II from the box
and fire it up. It immediately started some sort of boot process and then
quickly died. Deciding that it was fate, I looked more closely at the
IC-746PRO -- again with that desired two meter coverage. Well, the tuning
knob was so physically loose it appeared like a radio that had years of use
on it. Obviously, some sort of assembly process problem -- or early on design
flaw. So, in the end, I just bought a remaining stock new, original IC-746.
Nice radio, bugs worked out, and it works fine after all these weeks. Lesson
-- nobody has an edge on quality from my experience. I also have an original
FT-1000MP -- bought new from the last month of their production -- with no
problems. So, who can tell? I think you roll the dice on them all.
