Hi Greg,
I am also a very satisfactory owner of the original IC-756. I agree with
many hams that IC756pro and proII are better rigs. However, depending on
how much you are looking for in terms of performance difference as against
price, the original IC756 is still a very good performer especially after IF
filter upgrade.
Second handed original IC756 sells at a relatively low price so that you
have to pay quite a price difference to upgrade to IC756 pro or proII. I
use my original IC756 mostly for 6 meter weak signal DX. Therefore, very
tight fliters at 1.9/1.8khz bandwidth are not often neccessary. On the
other hand, the FL80/FL44A IF filter pair enable me to survive among big
guns in the vicinity.
