Ed:
Check for a good RF ground at BOTH ends of the feed line, i.e., a short,
wide strap from the mag mount (coax shield) to the vehicle body, same at the
radio (chassis). This may or may not be the trouble, but is necessary for
reasonable efficiency on the HF bands. Good luck, and hope to work you
mobile-to-mobile!

Wow. I'm stumped. I'm running an IC 706 mkII g in my mini van with an =
outbacker stealth plus on a tri mag mount on top. Everything was hunky =
dory until all of a sudden my swr has been very intermittent. Up on =
minute down the next. I tune with rtty and one time it will show on swr =
then infinity. This has happend on both 80 and 40 and I haven't checked =
it on other bands yet but I suspect the same will happen. There seems to =
be something loose in the system. I removed the tuner from in line took =
off the spring and quick disconnect from the antenna and have checked =
all connections including the wander lead and stinger on the antenna. I =
can't seem to find anything wrong. It still is very intermittent and =
squirelly [ if that's a word]. Could there be something in the radio =
itself or am I just missing something extremely simple. This was not a =
problem until all of a sudden and I can't think of anything recent that =
could have happened to the system. Any suggestions or thoughts would be =
appreciated.=20
