Most Ham transceivers do not include any tone control So it's not just th=
e
746... But a nice speaker will help.. there are several on the market tha=
t
will allow you to adjust the tone and the base , etc. =0D
good luck,=0D

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to improve the quality of the audio fro=
m=0D
their 746 by using better external speakers. When I bought mine (back in=0D
2000), I purchased the ICOM external speaker thinking that I would get=0D
better sound than the top cover-mounted speaker in the 746 itself.=0D
=0D
Every day I look at that external speaker and think that it is probably n=
o=0D
better than the one in the 746. The speaker element itself is no more tha=
n=0D
3-4 inches in diameter. I'm not sure what's in the rest of that external=0D
speaker unit (plastic box), but I'm guess it's just air.=0D
=0D
I've used headphones with the 746, so I know it is capable of better audi=
o=0D
than what I'm hearing from the external speaker.=0D
=0D
Also, is it just the 746, or do ham transceivers in general not provide a=
ny=0D
tone control?=0D
