[Icom] Icom 2100H squelch pop

Hi, Charlie:
I too have a 2100H, which exhibits the same thump on squelch
opening. I have modified mine to give access to low level (pre volume
control) audio output which I apply to my mixing console. The low level
output does NOT exhibit the thump (it is post squelch), which indicates to
me that there is something going on in the later audio stages, perhaps a DC
offset, to cause this annoying artifact of normal squelch operation. Id
have to pull it apart again and do some measurements to verify this,
however. Ill let you know f I find anything conclusive. I do find it
unsettling that Icom apparently felt that this artifact was acceptable in
their design (probably a cost thing), as apparently this is normal for the
2100H.
Good luck, and please keep the list up to date with any solutions that may
arise.

Subject: [Icom] Icom 2100H squelch pop
Reply-To: [email protected]

I have had numerous Icom 2100H units all of which have a squelch pop when it
is tripped. To hear this turn down the volume to practically nothing and
let a signal trip the squelch. An annoying pop will be heard. I use the
radio in my shack and when working DX, turn the volume down but the pop as I
describe is disturbing. Does anyone have a fix for this? Has this been
discussed before?

Please reply direct to me at [email protected]. I will summarize any real
pertinent replies and post to the list.

Thanks and 73,

Charlie, W0YG..>>
