Subject: [Icom] Service Manual for IC 706 MK II W/Problems

Hi,

I am having problems with my IC 706 MK II and will elaborate:

I had my 706 in the car while driving and I confirmed that my battery
condition was good with plenty of charge. Today I was on 24.940 with
speech compressor on with mic gain at 5 running 100 watts with the rig
cool and got several reports from breaking stations of distorted
modulation and splatter. Did test with station in Colorado and with
turning my comp on and off and the Colorado station told me the that I
was 100 % copyable with the comp off.

Upon further testing on an Astron RS 50 M into a verified antenna I came
to the following conclusions:

We had problems resetting the CPU with it trying to hang up in the self
test but finally got the procedure successfully completed. Note " This
rig was modified several weeks ago with the info gathered from Mods.DK
to open the TX in anticpation of us getting the 60 meter band.

Doing further testing it was concluded that :

The audio was dropping out with working SSB in a normal voice and low
power was observed on a known good watt meter as showing approx 20 to 30
on SSB , 100 on CW and only 55 on 10 m FM with the power setting on
high. Am power was measured at 30 watts. RTTY was measured as full
output at 100 watts.

I would greatly appreciate any information that you could provide on my
problem and I am looking for a good copy of a service manual and would
be willing to pay for the copying costs and postage or a used service
manual at a fair price. I wonder if anyone has a service manual scanned
?

Thanks,

Eric N4HGZ
