Sounds like that stuff would be pretty hard to work with, especially in
limited space places. Isn't there something that's more flexible that has
the same characteristics?

Copper braid is a relatively poor r-f conductor and is especially unsuited
for mobile applications. The problem is that the individual strands of wire
corrode and the r-f resistance goes up. Tinning only postpones the process.
A much better solution is to use solid copper sheet or strap, cut as
needed. This has much lower inductance than the braid and will last
indefinitely.
Braid is convenient but really not very effective.
