Beware! These units have a pair of capacitors intended to reduce
interference leakage trhough the power line. Their midpoint MUST be
connected to ground, otherwise they form a voltage divider that applies
about half of the line voltage to the case, when on 220VAC (then the input
rectifier operates in fullwave mode). On 110VAC, it operates as a voltage
doubler and applies also something like the line voltage to the case, if
ungrounded. Check for a goog groung to the case! Altough the corrent flowing
there isn't usually lethal, the voltages are more than enough to destroy
any grounded radio connected to the supply!!!
73 and good luck:

Subject: [Icom] ICOM PS-30
Hello to All,
I have a PS-30 power supply and was checking it for lightning damage
and noticed that I have 108VAC from the case to the negative lead on the DC
plug. Looking at the print the PS is isolated and not grounded to the case
housing. Can someone measure for this voltage on their PS-30 as I really
can't believe this is normal. Please e-mail me direct.
Thanks,
Ron, N4GFO
