Hi George,
The case temperature I referred to was the power-transistor case temperature,
not the radio case temperature. I stated that clearly in the phrase "70�C case
temperature in an RF power device...."
In practice, the radio will not overheat if its air vents are unobstructed, and
it has adequate airflow on all sides. If the radio is mounted in an enclosed
console, the console must be fitted with adequate air circulation fans.

Adam, I was thinking more about the other components, cabling, connectors...etc.
Heat is the enemy. I suppose I just feel better keeping the case temp at room
temperature.

Not to worry! The thermistor is attached to Q5, one of the PA power devices.
70�C case temperature in an RF power device is hot, but not dangerous.
(In the matter of SI vs. Imperial measure, Napoleon won my war way back in
1955.)
