John -
Not that familiar with that kind of vehicle, but if it has a
square back on it and you intend on mounting an antenna on the
trailer hitch such that the antenna assembly has a 4 foot wall
of metal a foot or so away, it is *not* going to work. Or it
will work very poorly.
Based upon my experience(s), the rear wall will severely detune
the antenna and destroy the coil Q. This is with helical and
Hustler style whips. We found with the Hustler style of antenna
you *could* get away with it, but the loading coil in that case
had to be above the roof line. This was learned from our
attempts and experiments on various vehicles and the
frustrations of trying to get a 75M Hustler to work on the
trailer hitch of a Windstar.
In circumstances like this (vehicles that look like a Blazer or
Pathfinder) Your best alternative is to mount on the front
bumper. Sometimes that can be hard to sell, I understand.
I also cannot over emphasize the benefits of running a ground
buss from bumper to bumper tying the antenna mount, exhaust,
tranny and engine together in one contiuous piece.
Best of luck!
