check R 20 a 3 ohm think 3 watt resistor on the PI unit board under the
scope unit it is on the extreme right colose to bottom of the board,
this is a very comon fault, I made my own resistor out of resistance wire
after replacing this resistor a few times probly closer to 4 + watts NO
PROBLEMS since a friend of mine has his resisor out board I could talk him
into what I did. I had replace this resistor with ohmite resistors correct
resistance and wattage but they opened once in a while so went to my own lil
bigger in current ...no problems since.
My 781 is 1990 vintage bought new back then only problems with it was that
resistor and the choke on the reg board replaced with the L16 as a FAQ said
in the icom web page on problems and fixes for the 781 this had to do with
the crt .
I would get all the faq on the icom page for the 781.
