Hi guys,

  Here's the surge-supression hardware I picked up from l-com(.com):

http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-weatherproof-hi-power-10-100-base-t-cat5-lightning-protector-rj45-jacks

http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-mast-mounting-kit-for-al-series-weatherproof-lightning-protectors

http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-n-male-to-n-female-bulkhead-0-3-ghz-90-v-lightning-protector

http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-90v-replacement-gas-tube-for-al-series-coax-protectors

http://www.l-com.com/coaxial-coax-seal-104-hand-moldable-plastic-weatherproofing-tape

  Elliot mentioned that Tessco was less expensive, but they want $50
(and up) for their type N (connector) microwave (3GHz) lightning
protectors, while l-com was $18 (and $5 for replacement gas discharge
tubes). Tessco didn't appear to have any outdoor (weatherproof) data
(ethernet) protection devices.

 Free authoritative Asterisk books on-line:

4th Edition (current):
  http://ofps.oreilly.com/titles/9781449332426/

3rd Edition (most content is good):
  http://www.asteriskdocs.org/
  http://asteriskdocs.org/en/3rd_Edition/asterisk-book-html-chunk/index.html
  (.pdf's are easy to find)

Firewall Ports used:

    http://forums.asterisk.org/viewtopic.php?t=74673

  My /etc/asterisk/rtp.conf specifies ports 10,000 to 20,000 for RTP
(real-time protocol -- the voice data) -- the defaults.
  and the "usual" port 5060 for SIP signalling.

I have the hardcopy of both books; I finished the 3rd edition a while
ago, and I'm about 1/4 of the way through the 4th edition. I've looked
at the freePBX interface, but I've done everything with a text editor
(no guI).

Have a great weekend, everyone!

->Bill
