Alright, here's the initial report:
Good news: We have A/C power available and plenty of room for equipment!
Bad news: We cannot use the wooden mast. It is split so no climbing
allowed. Also, it will be coming down at some point.
More good news: We CAN put our own mast there! I'm thinking Bill French's
aluminum poles. He showed me a few he has had up for a number of years on
his property. It appears to be a good balance of cost/durability. We can go
a maximum of 40' due to FAA approaches.
Even more good news: I had direct LOS to Woodman ST Francis from ground
level
Corresponding bad news: No LOS to my QTH or Ellicott from ground level.
My initial analysis: We use the aluminum mast to raise the node, antennas,
and amps. For power we place a battery, charger, and PoE equipment in the
power box (see picture). Run ethernet for power via PVC underground which
will connect directly underneath the mast. Run the Ethernet up through the
center of the mast.
Should the mast be partially buried in order to mate to the PVC and
provide additional stability?
The location of the site is approx 38.838, -104.572 distance to St Francis
on woodman is roughly 10 miles LOS. Going by the "Perfect World" on the
BBHN website then two stock nodes should be able to see each other. That
would be an interesting experiment.
