Subject: [VHF] Colorado 6M Beacon (50.065) DM79os, back - again...

The Colorado 6M Beacon is back on the air as on about 1100 MDT today. This
is the beacon that sported the calls WXIJR and KAXCDN. With Glenn's
passing Karen's call will be the sole call on the ID.
We (RMVHF+ Group) took the old IC551's that had been used in beacon
service since 1983 and retired them. The new beacon was built from the
ground
up by NXYE, WXBA, NXPOH and W6OAL We thought we had built it tough enough
to last forever. Well, apparently not, after much bench testing and two
months on the air it experienced some weird power glitch (or something)
which
caused either the keyer or the power supply to fail or go into some sort of
tizzy that caused us to have to shut it down.
Today, NXPOH and I (W6OAL) took on the troubleshooting task and
exercised the power supply by running full carrier (45 W) for tens of
minutes
on
end into a dummy load, glitching the AC as we went. The keyer was also put
through its paces but to no avail. We could not duplicate the failure. Just
to separate two possible problems (P/S and keyer) we changed out the
keyer. Should the failure again occur we will hold the power supply
suspect.
Further information on this Colorado 6M Beacon can be found on the
RMVHF+ web site _www.rmvhf.org_ (http://www.rmvhf.org) . Karen - KAXCDN, the
beacon licensee would appreciate QSL report's of beacon reception . Thanks,

CU 73, Dave... (W6OAL)
