Everybody has their own reasons.

Maybe, I don't know yet although I've had fun building my own yagi FM & TV 
antennas in the past.

Didn't know you could do that on a regular basis.

For me it would be! I remember about 20 years ago (when my now deceased 
elmer was into 6m) He & I chatted with a guy in Arizona all the way from 
Pasadena Tx with about 10 watts. I still have the Arizona QSL card the 
other ham sent me with 50.110 listed as the frequency.

Then lend him a transciever & a 6m antenna on a rotator so he can see if 
any 6m repeaters are in range. Try this list for cities & frequencies.
