Subject: [HoustonHam] Becoming "Verified" with PayPal

I've been receiving the notifications from PayPal
lately that I need to get "verified" by giving them
my bank name, routing number, and account number.
Even though my browser (IE) shows the lock icon
signifying a SECURE transaction, the thought of
sending that information over the net makes me
feel very, very INSECURE.

Have any of you out there in ham-land gone through
the PayPal verification process? Is it "for real"
or is it just another ploy used to get user data
for later scams?

I like the convenience of purchasing items and
hobby magazines through PayPal and have never had
a bad experience with them. I use only one credit
card with my account and track the expenditures
with PayPal not only through PayPal but through
the credit card company, also.

BUT ... I don't like the idea of giving them my
bank information (although, I guess they could
use my credit card info in a round-about way to
get that). OUCH - now I feel even more INSECURE!

Thoughts, anybody?

73 and GREAT DX!
