It's not clear to me that 12 bits is sufficient for 'real' SDR (to me, this
implies digitizing as close
to the antenna as you can get, probably with a preselector to remove signals
that are way out of
band).

For HF usage we need to be able to handle sub-microvolt wanted signals in
the presence of
out-of-band signals six orders of magnitude higher than this, and in-band
signals that aren't much
smaller in contest conditions. 12 bits doesn't have anywhere near enough
dynamic range.

I may be confused and/or missing the point, hi.
