According to the NTE site
(http://www.nteinc.com/specs/400to499/pdf/nte490.pdf), looked at from
the bottom, with the flat side uppermost:
D (drain) on the left; G (gate) in the middle; S (source) on the right.
For an N-channel MOSFET, the Drain connects to the most positive voltage
in the circuit. The Source connects to ground, typically. The Gate is
the control electrode, +ve to turn the device on.
