I always like to see the messages with the "HOMEBREW" tag, so I decided to
generate one. I thought you guys would like to hear about my current
project, a homebrew SSB rig for 17 meters.

Most of the design is from an article in the British QRP magazine SPRAT (Nr.
48) by Frank Lee, G3YCC (now a Silent Key). Solid State. Manhattan style
construction. Junk box parts. My version generates the SSB at 5.173 Mhz. I
had an old set of crystals from the filter and carrier oscillator in a Swan
240. The balanced modulator uses two diodes. After the filter there are
two stages of amplification then the signal goes to an NE-602 mixer. The
oscillator here is outboard to the NE-602. I upconvert to the operating
frequency.

That's how far I've gotten at this point. I'm looking around for RF Amp
circuits that will take me up to around 25 watts. I want to stay with 12
Volts DC. Any suggestions? Are the kits based on Motorola circuit notes
still around? I also thought about adapting a 20 meter amp kit that Ramsey
sells.

Once I get the TX going, I might go ahead and make this rig a transceiver.
I have plenty of room, because I'm building this thing on the chassis of an
old DX-40. I'll also use the front panel and cabinet from the old Heath.
